PNG to SVG Converter
Turn your PNG images into scalable vector graphics (SVG). Perfect for converting logos, icons, and simple graphics into formats that scale infinitely without pixelation.
How it works
Our converter uses advanced image tracing algorithms to analyze your PNG and recreate it as vector paths. The entire process happens in your browser - your images never leave your computer.
- Color detection - Automatically identifies colors and groups similar shades
- Edge tracing - Follows the edges of shapes to create smooth curves
- Path optimization - Reduces the number of points while maintaining accuracy
Best results come from the right images
Vectorization works brilliantly for some images and poorly for others. Here's what converts well:
| Great for | Not ideal for |
| Logos and brand marks | Photographs |
| Icons and UI elements | Images with gradients |
| Simple illustrations | Highly detailed artwork |
| Text and typography | Textures and patterns |
| Charts and diagrams | Watercolors or painterly styles |
Limitations to understand
Automatic vectorization has inherent limitations you should know about:
- Color simplification - The tracer groups similar colors together. Very gradual gradients may become banded.
- Detail loss - Very fine details smaller than a few pixels may be lost or simplified.
- File size - Complex images with many colors can produce large SVG files with thousands of paths.
- Not a replacement for manual tracing - For professional logos, a designer manually tracing in Illustrator will always produce cleaner results.
Tips for better results
- Use higher resolution - The more pixels in your source, the smoother the traced edges
- Clean up first - Remove backgrounds and noise in an image editor before converting
- Fewer colors = cleaner SVG - Reduce your image to 8-16 colors if possible
- Increase contrast - Sharp edges between colors trace better than soft transitions
Common use cases
- Logo recreation - Lost the original vector file? Trace from a PNG to recreate it
- Icon sets - Convert raster icons to scalable SVGs for web use
- Cutting machines - Cricut and Silhouette need vector files - convert your designs here
- Print production - Some printers require vector formats for large-scale printing
Frequently Asked Questions
Drag your PNG onto the upload area, wait for the tracing to complete, then download your SVG. The whole process takes seconds.
Close, but not identical. Vectorization converts pixels to paths, which involves some simplification. Simple images convert very accurately; complex images less so.
Complex images with many colors create many paths. Try reducing colors in your source image, or simplify the image before converting.
Technically yes, but the results aren't great. Photos have millions of colors and subtle gradients that don't vectorize well. You'll get a posterized, artistic interpretation rather than a faithful reproduction.
Yes! Basic conversions are completely free with no signup. Pro users get batch processing and higher limits.
No. Everything processes locally in your browser. Your images never leave your computer - we literally cannot see them.
There's no hard limit since processing is local. Very large images (>10MP) may be slow on older devices.
